Linux - Focus |
R.K.Owen has been involved with Linux since the 1.09 release back in September 1994. That's ancient history in Internet time. He downloaded the slackware distribution onto an SGI workstation via anonymous ftp. He then ftp'd the files onto an Apple Quadra PC, and using it's conversion program to copy the files onto about 50 DOS formatted diskettes, After creating the appropriate boot/root diskettes, He then loaded the diskettes onto a 33MHz 386 machine. Things have changed a lot since then.
Here a collection of links regarding Linux, that may be useful. Some of the pages are local to this website & some are links to the Internet.
- How to recompile the Linux kernel
- Adding a new user
- Setting up anonymous ftp
- Registering your home machine in the US domain (e.g. owen.sj.ca.us) The details apply directly to the San Jose area ... but similar procedures exist elsewhere
- Central repository of Linux How-to's (may be very slow)
