The Family Place!
Here are some helpful links for your family. Unless you're a perfect parent, you're always on the look out for ideas for helping your family grow stronger, I know I am! I'm far from perfect but I have learned a lot from studying and trying to practice some of the wisdom I've gleaned from these sites. Believe me, I still have a long way to go but I've been able to draw on many of the ideas and principles I've read in these books and on these sites. If I could start all over again..........but, I can't. You've got to go forward and make the most of what you've got. Hopefully you'll find these books and links helpful too. Families are most important in my opinion. In the words of a former President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, David O. McKay, "No Success Can Compensate for Failure in the Home." Nobody said it would be easy, but our families are worth all of the
help we can give them!
Books I Like (in no special order):
The One Minute Mother, Father and Teacher. They're all similar so you might be able to just read one. I have all three. They're different enough to be worth it to me, especially One Minute Mother and the One Minute Teacher as they are more applicable to me, the mom:)
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families" by Steven Covey. This book will be a great resource for you in raising a family.
Emotional First Aid by John Fishbein, PhD This book is a "first aid" for us when we're dealing with the same habits and attitudes that seem to get everyone in trouble. Anger, depression, communication that doesn't work, etc.. This is written for couples but principles can cross over to other relationships too.
FUNctional Families-Homemade Solutions for Happy Families by George D. Durant A book about "familying". A fun read.
The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman & Ross Campbell, M.D. I found out painfully that we can love our children with all of our hearts but if we don't do it in their love language, they might not feel that love! This is an eye opening book that will show you how to love in new ways and maybe understand your own love language too:)
The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. This was a humbling book for me. She's written several other books but this is the only one I've read.
